After the warm up tonight we started with ‘California Dreamin’ led by Tom. I think the choir really like this song and it’s one we have brought out of the library several times in the 15 years we’ve been going. However, there are some more tricky bits, notably the ‘dah bah’s especially the soprano part, so we spent quite a bit of time on these bars. Tom seemed quite pleased with the progress we’ve made.

Next we practised ‘Evening Star’. I think this is a beautiful song, which is a surprise for me as Edgar Allan Poe, who wrote the song, is noted for his dark and macabre poems. Hopefully there isn’t a hidden meaning that I haven’t worked out.

Our third song was ‘Corn’. Some of us are really getting to like this quirky song. What I like most about it is the variety of styles within it.

Then we did some more work on ‘The Hallelujah Chorus’. What an incredible piece of music! It is a privilege to be part of a choir singing this.

We finished with ‘You Raise Me Up’ which is a good uplifting song to end a practice with.
