What could have been quite a stress inducing afternoon was actually a true celebration of professionalism, legendary poets and fantastic music.

The Lumley half of the Dawson-Lumley duo was unfortunately unable to perform on Thursday, however Rachel didn’t panic and instead put on a beautiful programme of music. Katy Bradley, who was to accompany the duo, stepped in to sing a few alto lines and couple of solo pieces.

The recital began with triad of songs all arranged by Alexander L'Estrange. She walks in beauty by Lord Byron was up first and truly set the angelic tone of the afternoon. We then meandered through Lord Tennyson and Percy Bysshe Shelley, with Now sleeps the crimson petal and Love's philosophy to conclude our L'Estrange portion of the programme.

After a few solo pieces from Katy, the pair sang together again for Edgar Allan Poe's A Dream Within a Dream. This piece will be up on our YouTube channel shortly, so do keep an eye out.

Rachel was up next for her highly amusing collection of songs all arranged by Christopher Field. The Cow and The Crocodile were particularly entertaining.

The recital concluded with Wind On The Hill, a poem by A. Milne. The arrangement by Douglas E. Wagner was particularly beautiful, with harmonies that truly tugged on the heart strings.

Thank you to Rachel, Katy and our page turning legend Alison. What an afternoon.
