Coming back after Easter break was a real treat. You don’t realise how important seeing all these ladies every week is, until you have two weeks without them! Did this mean that it took Katy an extra few minutes to wrangle us all into starting, due to the chattering? Maybe…

We began with The Human Heart which is a song from the musical ‘Once on This Island’. Not only is it a great arrangement, but it truly nails our concert theme of ‘Love, light and the heart’, fitting as we’re raising money for Heartbeat (a cardiac rehabilitation charity, based in the Northwest).

We then changed gears and gave Taylor Swift’s Shake it off a go. Dearest reader, did I come in far too early with my “shakes”? Yes, I absolutely did. Did my alto neighbour Chris proceed to laugh at me? Yes, she absolutely did… We’re very much a supportive group, lifting each other up within the music & outside of it too. However, as the talker of the group, I tend to make loud mistakes…

Changing gears once again we moved onto Hope is the Thing with Feathers. We have touched on this a tiny bit, but only a few bars. This was the first time we really sank our teeth into it, and my goodness, once we’ve polished it up, it’ll be fantastic.

Light of a Clear Blue Morning was up next. Now Dolly Parton is one of my personal heroes, but I will happily be the first to say, my oh my she loves a fast intricate harmony!! I think this piece will be a real crowd pleaser, come concert time. Personally, I cannot wait to perform it.

We finished off our rehearsal with a few familiar favourites, Moon River, Heartbeats and Celestial. After using most of my brain power up on the newer pieces, it was lovely to finish on such a high.
