A group of over twenty KTB Music community members enjoyed an evening at the Preston Playhouse theatre, and now vacuuming may never be the same again...
You'll have to forgive me, dear reader, as I have been tasked with writing this blog post about the April 2026 KTB Music social, and as you might suspect, I am not the type to hold back when given explicit instructions otherwise. I've got Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande blasting on my speaker to get the cheeky vibes just right, and my morning caffeine... let's go!
(Katy... brace yourself. Put down your tea. It's safer that way.)
'Dirty Dusting' tells the story of a very lucrative weekend for cleaners Marilyn, Kylie, and Madonna - no, sorry, Olive, Elsie, and Gladys (Carol Buckley, Maureen Nickson, and Jill Thompson) whose jobs are under threat from their ageist and misogynist boss (played by Frank Duxbury). One wrong number sparks the idea to milk the men of the area for cash by tapping in to their secret predilections. The customer must always come first, after all. Especially if they're paying per minute for the pleasure of some aural company.
The script certainly provides plenty of hard and fast innuendo, with callers talking about all sorts of things that would make that famous TikTok paramedic man shake his head in disappointment. You may have heard of Chekov's Gun, but have you heard of Chekov's Vacuum Cleaner? I always thought that cute little smile was a little too knowing.
That's not to say we were left unsatisfied on the emotional front - we learned not to judge a book by its cover, or a cleaner by her hobbies. It's very often the quiet ones you have to watch out for, as they say, and fun definitely does not end at 69! The story built to an explosive climax as the telephone trio unmasked the villain with a twist worthy of a certain famous cartoon series. He would have gotten away with it, if it weren't for getting a little too sucked in (to his own false sense of superiority). We all like a happy ending, don’t we?
The cast did a fantastic job, as did everyone working on the production. I can safely say (based on all the cackling going on) that we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Was that the earth moving, or just the seats shaking from all the laughter? Hard to say.
There is no way I can think of to subtly segue into giving you information about our next social event: KTB Music will be holding our third Maggot Race night in aid of North West Air Ambulance. In case you've not heard of this, er, quaint pastime: it's a bunch of squirmy pink things wriggling through tunnels. Sigh. No, there's absolutely no way I could have made that segue work...
To get back to Serious Mode: the North West Air Ambulance gives emergency interventions and medical transport to thousands of critically ill patients across the North West every year through their fleet of helicopters and cars. These missions are funded entirely through charitable donations, as the service receives no regular funding from the NHS or from the government, and yet it needs around £18m each year to operate. Events like our next social help to raise money that pays for every aspect of their crucial life-saving work.
Time is running out to buy (and name!) your maggots and jockeys, but there will be plenty of other ways you can get involved on the night. Get in touch with the office if you want to claim naming rights, and good luck!
(Also... could someone over at the KTB studio please check in on Katy...?)
