One of Kate M’s school choirs set out on a musical mission this afternoon to bring joy of song to local ‘Much Hoole-igans’ who were meeting for their Christmas party. Organised by Richard and Julie, this lunch was designed to bring some of the older residents in the area together, eat a delicious meal and enjoy each other’s company. The school choir were asked to provide the after dinner entertainment ,much to the children’s delight as they got to escape school for an hour.

The children donned their high vis jackets and walked from school to the venue in Much Hoole, accompanied of course by their head teacher and a teaching assistant. Kate M. arrived early to set up and meet with the organisers. Once the children arrived, they warmed up their voices, much to Richard’s delight, who joined us for some swoopy hums then announced us as we entered the main hall.

Richard had spent a little time with Kate M. before hand to take details of which verses of the communal carols the ladies and gentlemen should join in with. It is a good job he did as Kate put down her notebook and couldn’t find it, nor could she recall the numbers of the verses! In her words – Whoopsie…

Then the children began to sing. They started with a rousing rendition of Ding Dong Merrily (The Celebrations Started) followed by the communal carols; O Come All Ye Faithful, Once In Royal David’s City and Hark The Herald Angels Sing. The children sang the first verse of each song on their own then invited everyone to join in with the rest of the song. They finished by singing ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’ to everyone’s delight. There was much clapping and cheering for the children as they were thanked and took their bows.

So much effort had been put into organising this lovely community event and the school choir were blessed to have been a part of it. They were even given little gifts to say thank you which was unexpected but it meant a lot to the children to have their had work rewarded.

It was a wonderful afternoon of community spirit and festive cheer and we hope to return next year.
