The practice this week was the first of the year for me so quite a lot of the music had already been learnt but I think I managed to keep up with help and encouragement from the rest of the altos and as it happens none of the songs were new to me although some were done what seems like a long time ago.
We started with ‘A Gaelic Blessing’ and did nearly up to halfway. I personally really like John Rutter's music so this was a joy for me. None of his music is easy but worth the hard work and a challenge is good for us.
We then worked on ‘Drive My Car’, a Beatles classic. This has the word ‘beep’ repeated many times and Katy insisted we practise this sound first, which was an interesting experience. We sang through the whole of the piece. I think Katy was pleased with it but obviously it wasn’t quite the Beatles.
Altogether we did 5 songs, which I think is more than we normally do. The next one we did was ‘Heave Away’. After we’d done a few bars Katy stopped us as it was making her feel sleepy. I think we got the message as we then went all the way through with gusto. We then worked on the first part of ‘Teddy Bears’ Picnic’ before finishing off with a run through ‘One Vision’. I’m really looking forward to working on this again as it’s such a good song which you can put your heart and soul into.
