Young Tom made his debut as choral conductor this evening, it was very exciting to learn something from him, he seemed very comfortable standing at the front telling everyone what to do! Especially when it came to the tricky rhythm...
We were learning (I wonder why...) You're Just in Love; it doesn't look particularly tricky but it's full of syncopated rhythms and dotted notes. It was especially funny when everybody started singing and Tom said "woah, woah, I haven't started yet!" We certainly watched closely after that!
After Tom had his moment in the spotlight, our very own Katy B (after I think thoroughly enjoying a few minutes to sit down) got up to lead us through a few new songs! Evening Star and Side by Side.
I think I may have heard a few groans when the Hallelujah Chorus was our next song to tackle... but those groans quickly turned into giggles as the slightly, dare I say, ridiculous rollercoaster of notes took us for a ride! I can't wait until the KTB Choir has this one to put in our arsenal.
Next, we moved onto Corn and as a few Sopranos have been missing for a couple of weeks, we focused on some of the parts we'd previously done. I don't think any of the choir was complaining, it's a fun one!
We concluded our Monday night rehearsal with a favourite, You Raise Me Up. What a beautifully melodic piece, with fantastic harmonies.
I personally can't wait for next week!
