After a 20 minute warm-up with Katy at the piano we sang through 7 songs, all ones we’re planning to sing at our next concert in April. As usual there was a good variety. We started with ‘Fields of Gold’ with our 2 new soloists doing their bit so we feel a bit more prepared now with this song. Next we stood to sing what I think was a rousing edition of ‘The Banner Man’ with Kate leading us, followed by ‘Ob-la-Di Ob-la-Da’ and ‘Drive my Car’. We quietened down next to sing ‘Yellow’, another song popular with the choir. Then with Katy conducting again we sang ‘Tonight’, an inspiring song written by Katy herself. I hope we did it justice.
Before we left we worked on ‘A Gaelic Blessing’ as the general feeling in the choir was that we needed to refine this. It is a beautiful song adapted by John Rutter and although it’s quite short and the words are repeated, some of the notes, particularly on the last page, are quite tricky. We have 2 more rehearsals to improve.
