Even though it’s August there was a good number of sopranos and basses at this practice. But there were only 1 tenor and only 3 altos. We gave a good sound in spite of that.
We started off as usual with a warm up with Katy at the piano and then Carol. The warm ups gave us practice of different vowel sounds. Kate then came to the front and we worked on the dynamics of ‘Side by Side’, always a favourite and a good one to get us going.
We then sung through ‘California Dreaming’ with Kate conducting, but as it’s really Tom who is leading us with this it was just a sing through as Tom was one of the tenors who wasn’t present.
The next 45 minutes were spent on ‘Corn’. At last we have got through to the end and worked properly on the last 3 pages. It’s a challenging piece. We finished with ‘You’re just in Love’, a gentle way to end the evening.
