It was a quiet session this evening due to many members feeling under the weather but calmness was not on the cards. Kate took charge this evening, opening the session with announcements and updates of events coming up including a concert version of a musical which KTB Music staff member Tom Madill has written the music for.
leading us through various warmups and exercise’s. One member exclaimed ‘Do exercise A6, it’s my favourite’. It took Kate a moment to realise that we don’t have an exercise A6 and that the member was having a little joke. We had a good chuckle at her confusion and realisation but she had her revenge by making our noses tickle with the next exercise which used the word ‘Me’.
Kate then guided us through the new music we received today. We started with ‘Heave away’ working on the rhythm and notes. A nice easy start as the tune and harmonies are nice and repetitive. We then moved on to ‘One Vision’. A little trickier with the timing and rhythm, a lot of do do do’s at the beginning and fast paced. Nether the less, we had a lot of fun learning the intro and first verse, working on our harmonies and dynamics. We then moved onto the hardest piece of the evening; ‘Drive My Car’. The harmonies in this piece are very discordant making it tricky to place our notes however, Kate guided us through the first part of the piece, section by section, note by note, helping us feel a little more comfortable with the clash of the written notes. After this, we were excited and relieved to hear we would be finishing with a run through of ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’. We were confident we knew this one and all remembered working on it is the past. We set off with gusto, harmonies on point, that is until we reached ‘Picnic time for teddy bears’. It was then we realised we’d only learnt the first couple of verses but Kate assured us we’d go over the untouched section next week and we all had a good chuckle about how dramatically it changed.
Looking forward to more singing, learning and of course laughter next week.
