There was something in the air tonight. Mostly chatter… as we all took a few extra minutes to settle in. In our defence, we had a lot to catch up on after Saturday’s fantastic Postponed Proms!
We kicked things off with ‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers. After giving it plenty of attention last rehearsal, it was deeply satisfying to finally nail that opening section, always a good way to boost morale early on.
Next up was Ed Sheeran’s Celestial. With a few more upper sopranos than usual in the mix, it felt like the perfect moment to revisit some of our stronger numbers and get everyone up to speed. Riding that wave, we breezed through Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now and José González’s Heartbeats. Efficient and enjoyable (a rare and beautiful combo)!
Then came Man in the Mirror. If I’m not mistaken, this was our first full sing-through of the Michael Jackson classic. As an alto, I can confirm there were several entertaining low notes… all of which were met with varying degrees of success and a fair amount of giggling. Personally, I had an absolute blast.
We wrapped up with Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off. With Harry absolutely shredding on the piano, it was the perfect high-energy finish to the rehearsal. Not a bad way to spend an evening at all.
