Tonight was the first England match in the World Cup. I wondered if this would affect the numbers but there was a good group of us and we got off to a flying start, I just hope England do the same!

We began with a conversation about an up and coming theatre trip later on in the year. It is good fun when we go off to watch a performance elsewhere, and it is great when Katy organises a coach so we can all travel together. First come first served on the tickets so you need to be organised, I think it will be a popular show.

Only two more practices before our summer performance so we are trying to polish up any pieces that we feel are not quite up to scratch. So lucky that Katy puts the music in its various parts on YouTube so we are able to work on our own from home, and I suspect this will be happening for us in the next couple of weeks. Yes it is all for fun and yes we will be surrounded by friends and family, but you still want to do your best and give your all.

Katy asked if someone with a phone could take various pictures during the rehearsal to show us in our summer finery, in the sunshine.

“Texas hold em“ is a very bouncy song and quite a hard one to start with; lots of words and whoops to fit in as it goes along, think we managed it! “Wonderful world “ next- thankfully a bit slower and definitely more soulful. Sometimes we are in unison and it is a treat, then it changes to a swing style and we enjoy the difference. It is also nice when we get to step out of the singing and listen to everyone else, you can tell that we are getting pleasure out of our combined performances.

Whipped through a few songs that we are more confident about and concentrated on those not quite as polished. Katy was asking us what we thought needed work and what we were happier with.

There is such a diverse selection of music, both in genre and going back in time, right up to present day with the Taylor Swift song “Invisible string”, really varied choices. It has been known that members make suggestions about a particular song and Katy goes away and thinks about it: sometimes it appears as sheet music, sometimes it doesn’t!

The night finished 10 minutes earlier to allow those whose who wanted to get back home to watch the football .
(No spoilers here but England won 4-2 , all of us had a successful night) 😊
