We have two “warm ups” at choir and the first, the social warm up is as important
as the voice, although this could be disputed... but I think we enjoy catching up with
each other’s news whenever we meet!

After stretching our vocal cords we launched into “Butterfly Fly Away” which has a lovely mix of lyric and western influences, a gentle start. Then the classic “Can’t Help Falling In Love” which sends shivers of familiarity down a fair few spines and those deep deep tones which are rather beautiful.

Next was the catchy “Clouds” to move us along to the riotous but wonderful Martha and the Vandellas “Dancing In The Street,” which we need to practice as it is so fast-paced. There was a discussion pertaining to the three sections of the choir and the subtle differences in the harmonies.A member was worried that their voice couldn’t quite reach high enough, but this isn’t a problem here.

“Firework”, “ Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” and the familiarity of "Getting To Know You” were next and to complete the session, “What a Wonderful World,” with it’s soaring bird-like quality and a touch of the sentimentality. A heady mix with something to please most tastes.

We then talked about extra curricular events e.g. The Maggot Race and walking in a procession at a future date, to wind up the evening.
