Saturday evening saw the return of the most bonkers yet brilliant event of the year... the Maggot Race!! Through the support of our wonderful race sponsors, everyone who sponsored a maggot or a jockey and those of you who attended on the night, we raised a fantastic £2381.40 for the North West Air Ambulance!

"But what even is a maggot race?!" I hear you all screaming. Dear reader, please bear with me as I attempt to explain the slight insanity of a KTB race night.

Doors opened at 7pm, and thanks to our event sponsor and host Longton VM Sports & Social Club, the drinks began to flow. Our commentator John 'Gilly' Gillmore opened the evening and welcomed our volunteers, Roger and Jim, from the NWAA. Betting desks opened at 7.30pm sharp and then we were away.

There were eight qualifying races and then the grand final, each sponsored by local businesses and community members. I'd like to take a moment here to thank them all individually. Dolphin Clay Target Centre, Occam IT Solutions, PWL Architecture, Classic and Retro Restorations, Hoole St. Michael's Primary School, SB Languages, All Seasons Garden Machinery Maintenance, Moss Farm Cattery and TJR Paving. The evening wouldn't have been the same without you.

Our lovely referee Matt raised the first gate and what was a polite friendly atmosphere very quickly transformed into a room of cheers, arm waving and nail-biting excitement. Quick maggots, slow maggots, maggots that turned around and even maggots that jumped out of their own lanes. We truly experienced it all!

A big congratulations to all our winning maggots and jockeys, oh and of course, well done to their sponsors too.

We cannot wait for next year!
