Our doors opened at 16:15 and our members were greeted with a big hello and a smile. As we waited for all members to arrive we shared stories of what we had been up to over the last week.
The session started with us humming egg shapes to warm up our voices followed by a slow-paced Bananas and Mangos rhythm game to encourage listening to each other and keeping time with Kate. We then warmed up our mouths by using the words ‘Me, Moo, Mah, Lee, Loo and Laa’ in fast paced scales. This was tricky because it was at a fast speed and the vibrations tickled our lips and tongues.
Kate then excitedly described our next concert and lyric booklets were handed out, full of all the Christmas songs for the concert. Kate and Tom started teaching us the songs by working on the rhythm of the words first, then the melody and then we got to sing through the full songs. We sang Merry Christmas by Ed Sheeran & Elton John, White Christmas, Frosty the Snowman, Let it Go from Frozen, Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin’ Stevens, Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree and A Starry Night. When we got to A Starry Night Kate explained we needed to sing this ‘sweetly’ and encouraged us to use our lighter voices.
