Excitement grew for the first class on the year as there was a new lesson format in play. Members arrived and we had a quick fire round of ‘tell me in 30 seconds what you got up to over Christmas’. The members eagerly awaited their turn to tell the group new of their festivities. After that we set about warming up our voices and included ‘Nisa Nisa’ as a cannon. Although still finding it tricky to keep to their own part, it was the most successful cannon we have ever achieved.
We received new music and lyrics today, always an exciting moment and we set about learning a couple of the new pieces including the first section of ‘Any Dream Will Do’ from Joseph. We were split into two groups for this and worked on harmonisation and reading our part in a choral score. Next we were handed over to Tom who started to teach us how to play the ukelele! We learnt how to hold the instrument, the name of each string, what a fret board was and, how to play 3 different chords! We are excited to continue learning the ukelele more over this term. I wonder what song we will learn to play?
To finish off this lively session we learnt the words, timing and notes of ‘Bare Necessities’. It’s quite fast in places and felt like a tongue twister so we will work more on the words over the next couple of sessions.
We can’t wait for more singing and ukeleles next week and we are welcoming new members all through January so why don’t you come and join us 😊.
