We’re back!!
After a triumphant choir concert (which you can read about – here) the KTB Voice was back with a swing. This time between now and September (when Christmas rehearsals begin) is a quietly brilliant time when you’re part of a KTB choir. It’s the time for no-pressure rehearsal, singing through songs that’ll never make a programme, tackling difficult arrangements for pieces we may only see again in a year or two and just having a jolly-old-time.
However, next year for our July concert The Voice are singing a programme of songs all inspired by poets. As many of these pieces are quite fiddly and complex, we’re getting a head start on them now.
Previously (think early post-covid days) we’ve sung a section of ‘Everyday Wonders: The Girl from Aleppo’ and hope to sing the full 18 minutes at this concert. The piece is a five-movement choral cantata composed by Cecilia McDowall with a libretto by Kevin Crossley-Holland and is based on the true biography of Nujeen Mustafa, a Kurdish teenager with cerebral palsy who fled the Syrian war in a wheelchair. I personally cannot wait for this!
We also note bashed through a piece that is as far away from ‘The Girl from Aleppo’ as I think you could get, ‘Five Eyes’ is a witchy piece that’s incredibly fast paced, and only a couple of minutes long…
I’m so happy to be back after two weeks away. Between now and next week, I’m going to start Mustafa & Lambs Girl from Aleppo to really get myself immersed in the piece. See you all next week!
